Well, my edges thinned out to almost being bald. Do you see the picture below? That was me. That is an actual photo of me and my real live situation at the time. But I am grateful for the comparison picture on the right of the balding photo. That comparison proves that patience, consistency, and just some good all natural products can truly work. But before I celebrate the end results too much, let me tell you more about the beginning!
My hair wasn’t always damaged and balding and whatnot! Lol, unhealthy hair care practices, excessive heat, weaves, depending on a stylist to care for my hair when we live in a world of stylists who just don’t have that kind of time anymore, tight braids, not to mention hair gels and sometimes hair spritz (yuck) and the list goes on and on as to how my once long, thriving, healthy hair took a nose dive for the worst. After a few years of constant hair abuse the eye opener for me was the loss of my edges. It was in reality of the extra work I had to put into my hair in order to cover up my problem. The disappointment of buying this name brand hair growth product and that name brand hair growth product totaling hundreds of dollars for a dream and then a hopeless nightmare of nothing ever working. So I prayed and asked God to help me come up with something that would help me get my hair back on track. I asked God to show me how to grow my hair back in. And I asked God to help me figure out something that was natural and easy. Truth is, I didn’t really know how to take care of my hair on my own. Most of us don’t. And when I would ask stylists to give me tips for at home maintenance they always recommended I just come to them and they will get me back on track. I felt enslaved by the power of others. I wanted to be empowered.
So I took to studying and researching. I lurked in on the many internet Hair Boards and watched took to Youtube to watch the Har Gurus. I started studying the science of hair and things started making sense. It was from there that I became knowledgeable about how many harmful ingredients, fillers, and chemicals are put into hair products. I learned natural substitutes for those fillers. I learned what ingredients work and of course what does not work. I learned what oils are beneficial to the hair and what oils should ummmmm...maybe just be used for the body. Most importantly, I learned how my dry, thin, split end ridddled, moisture depleted weak hair could make a turn around. I got the ingredients right and figured out how to put them together and started using them daily. I came up with a leave in conditioner mix that was right for me, and an oil blend for every day use that wouldn't be too heavy, and a little something- something for that embarrassing bald spot. Yup, all three of them! I purchased only pure carrier and essential oils and began hand-making them specifically for my own use. I wanted the best ingredients for myself so I purchased the best.
I had no intent at first to really begin a company or even sell hair care products at all. I just used them for my own purposes. Then, I started seeing a change in my hair. More thickness, more shine, less split ends, and the broken hairs on the kitchen sink and the globs of hair in the shower became fewer until there were only the shedding of hair that is expected to take its natural course. I was liking what I was seeing! People started complimenting my hair and asking the name of the stylist taking care of my hair, lol. I was proud to say Me! Then my edges started filling back in slowly but surely (it took time and consistency--just keeping it real ). And although there is still some patience and care I am still continuing to fully bring my edges back to 100%-- I know for sure that my hair has come a long way. This was the moment that if I never knew it then, I definitely know it now that God answers all prayer even the ones that seem so insignificant to others but are the prayers we hold dear to our hearts. I am grateful for the experience of losing my edges. I am grateful for the thinning, dry, hopeless hair for it was by way of these dilemmas that God used to bring about a blessing not only to me, but now for others.
I still make all three of the products by hand. I still make them the same exact way. And I still use the same three products daily for my own personal use. Now it just so happens I make them for men and women of all hair textures who share the same story as I once had. As Hair All Down My Back, LLC continues to expand I pray that I always remember that it is on my best day that I still need God as much as I needed Him on my worst day. So it is with sincerity of heart I provide to you Hair All Down My Back, LLC Three Step Healthy Hair Care System. Enjoy!
